Innovation Video: Re-thinking the Future

Innovation Video: Re-thinking the Future. Dr Edward de Bono is regarded as the global leading authority in the field of creative and conceptual thinking. An MD, PHD and Rhodes Scholar, he has authored 72 books in 41 languages.

If questioned today, many people would say the biggest problem facing humanity is Climate Change. According to de Bono, this is not true. The biggest problem facing humanity is our poor thinking… The only bigger problem is that we don’t realise this.

The way our minds work today is simply to recognise and respond to patterns. As our education system was based in religion from the time of the renaissance, we have been taught to think in ways that would be useful to the church, ie. truth, logic and argument.

This system has been excellent and worked for us in many aspects, namely scientific and technological pursuits.

Though however excellent, it is not enough. Historically, we have not been taught creativity, design and perceptual thinking. We are able to identify a problem with ease, however we are not able to effectively create new ways to fix it.

There is no magic to this way of thinking… There are a number of very simple methods we can use in order to achieve this.

Watch the wonderfully entertaining Edward de Bono in his presentation at Creative Innovation 2010 to discover how you can add to your current way of thinking and increase your ability to design and create.

Creative Innovation is an annual future-shaping conference event. It is the place to learn from world-changing innovators, futurists, inspired thinkers and curious souls gathered together in an interactive community. Innovation Presentation: Where Good Ideas Come From

Innovation Presentation: Where Good Ideas Come From. One of our most innovative, popular thinkers takes on-in exhilarating style-one of our key questions: Where do good ideas come from?

With Where Good Ideas Come From, Steven Johnson pairs the insight of his bestselling Everything Bad Is Good for You and the dazzling erudition of The Ghost Map and The Invention of Air to address an urgent and universal question: What sparks the flash of brilliance? How does groundbreaking innovation happen? Answering in his infectious, culturally omnivorous style, using his fluency in fields from neurobiology to popular culture, Johnson provides the complete, exciting, and encouraging story of how we generate the ideas that push our careers, our lives, our society, and our culture forward.

Beginning with Charles Darwin’s first encounter with the teeming ecosystem of the coral reef and drawing connections to the intellectual hyperproductivity of modern megacities and to the instant success of YouTube, Johnson shows us that the question we need to ask is, What kind of environment fosters the development of good ideas? His answers are never less than revelatory, convincing, and inspiring as Johnson identifies the seven key principles to the genesis of such ideas, and traces them across time and disciplines.

Most exhilarating is Johnson’s conclusion that with today’s tools and environment, radical innovation is extraordinarily accessible to those who know how to cultivate it. Where Good Ideas Come From is essential reading for anyone who wants to know how to come up with tomorrow’s great ideas.

Innovation Speech: 365 Ways to Unlock Creativity and Innovation

Innovation Speech: 365 Ways to Unlock Creativity and Innovation. This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Ken Hughes’ work in behaviouralism has led him on an interesting journey. Ken spent a year experiencing something playful, something risky, something new that he had never done before, every day, for a year. Although it started off as a personal journey it quickly spread to those around him, in both his personal and professional life. Play, risk, creativity, and innovation is now a big part of Ken’s approach to helping blue-chip clients stimulate their organizational creativity, and by extension their innovation. ‘My passion’ Ken states ‘is to motivate others to unleash their creativity through a blend of discovery, fun, play, mischief and risks. Once you get started, it’s addictive’.

Enjoy Ken Hughes’s TEDx University of Nicosia talk.

Ken Hughes is Europe’s leading consumer and shopper behaviouralist, and a global thought leader in the areas of shopper psychology, behavioural economics and neuromarketing.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Innovation Speech: How to Manage for Collective Creativity

Innovation Speech: How to Manage for Collective Creativity. This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. At the heart of innovation is a paradox: you have to unleash the talents and passions of many people, yet you have to harness them into a work that is actually useful. Management professor Linda Hill offers three keys to overcoming this paradox and building a truly innovative organization.

Linda A. Hill is the Wallace Brett Donham Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School. She is the faculty chair of the Leadership Initiative and has chaired numerous HBS Executive Education programs, including the Young Presidents’ Organization Presidents’ Seminar and the High Potentials Leadership Program. She was course-head during the development of the new Leadership and Organizational Behavior MBA required course. She is the co-author, with Greg Brandeau, Emily Truelove, and Kent Lineback of Collective Genius: The Art and Practice of Leading Innovation and coauthor with Kent Lineback of Being the Boss: The 3 Imperatives of Becoming a Great Leader. In 2013, she was named by Thinkers50 as one of the top ten management thinkers in the world.

Professor Hill’s consulting and executive education activities have been in the areas of leadership development, talent management, leading change and innovation, implementing global strategies, and managing cross-organizational relationships. Organizations with which she has worked include General Electric, Reed Elsevier, Accenture, Pfizer, IBM, MasterCard, Mitsubishi, Morgan Stanley, the National Bank of Kuwait, AREVA, and The Economist.

Professor Hill is a member of the Board of Directors of State Street Corporation, Eaton Corp., and Harvard Business Publishing. She is a trustee of the The Bridgespan Group and the Art Center College of Design. She is on the Board of Advisors for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund USA and a Special Representative to the Board of Trustees of Bryn Mawr College. She is a former member of the Board of Trustees of The Rockefeller Foundation. She is also on the Advisory Board of the Aspen Institute Business and Society Program. She serves on the Editorial Board of the Leadership Quarterly.
